Vision Statement

Jesus Christ has gathered laity, deacons, priests, and bishop of congregations and diocesan ministries in central and southern Indiana to be the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis.

We celebrate the great gift of our Anglican heritage and will deepen our understanding of its tradition and heritage, inviting others to join us.

We welcome all persons into our common life and will proclaim the gospel to those in our communities who do not yet know our Lord.

We will nurture relationships in Christ, remaining in conversation with one another despite honest disagreement, always seeking God's will.

We are thankful for our differences and acknowledge that they enrich and energize our ministries.

We promise compassion, acceptance, and assistance to those in need.

We acknowledge and celebrate the wealth of talent and treasure which has been given and will grow in confidence that working together, we will always have enough to engage in God's mission.

Communication, Technology, and the Gathered Community

What you can expect at the Clergy Ember Day Gathering Thursday, February 25, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at St. Thomas, Franklin.
You’ll…
·          Hear from two Indiana University professors of new media and telecommunications discuss how we can more effectively be the gathered community of the Church when our constituency is at widely-varying levels with technology---from computer-resistant technophobe to perpetually-connected techno-geek!   Explore how we can all make better communication choices and set technology priorities for our parishes when we simply can’t do it all.  Discover strategies for how technology can serve us instead of us becoming a slave to it. Vision a bit about what the next few years might hold for communication and technology in our culture and its potential impact on the Church.

·         Be the first to review the proposed new diocesan “evangelzine” (magazine with an evangelism focus replacing Tidings), the restructured diocesan web site, web conferencing options, a new e-newsletter, social networking tools, and other means of keeping us all connected.

·         Participate in roundtable discussions and practical, hands-on learning station experiences related to your parish and communication tools, equipment, and technology, from web to video/DVD, from print and direct mail to PR/news media liaison.

·         Have one-on-one work time with persons who can help you with your own specific parish communication-related challenges and questions, from worship bulletins/newsletters to web sites and signage.

·         Create a print advertising piece for your church on-the-spot that is slated to be used in a widely-distributed diocesan-wide communication opportunity beginning in June.

·         Record a video greeting (if you’d like) introducing your own parish for use on the diocesan web site and your own site, as well as other potential video/DVD tools.

·         Win a door prize designed to help you enhance your parish’s communication technology---from a Flip video camera to a web cam!

Some Homework That Would Be Helpful:
1.       Compile a parish technology “wish list.” What do you need/want with respect to equipment, software, and assistance? What is your vision for how you could use it?

2.      Begin to compile some thoughts for a print advertising opportunity for your parish. Think about up to 150 words/phrases capturing:
·          What sets us apart?
·         What are some opportunities to connect with our parish?
·         What is coming up in your parish from June-September that might interest potential church guests?

3.      Bring at least one good quality horizontal (i.e. non-vertical) photograph on a disk that, if we can only use one, would highlight your parish building/s at its best.

Gather as early as 9:30 am.  Program begins at 10:00 am.
