Vision Statement

Jesus Christ has gathered laity, deacons, priests, and bishop of congregations and diocesan ministries in central and southern Indiana to be the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis.

We celebrate the great gift of our Anglican heritage and will deepen our understanding of its tradition and heritage, inviting others to join us.

We welcome all persons into our common life and will proclaim the gospel to those in our communities who do not yet know our Lord.

We will nurture relationships in Christ, remaining in conversation with one another despite honest disagreement, always seeking God's will.

We are thankful for our differences and acknowledge that they enrich and energize our ministries.

We promise compassion, acceptance, and assistance to those in need.

We acknowledge and celebrate the wealth of talent and treasure which has been given and will grow in confidence that working together, we will always have enough to engage in God's mission.

Education

Christian formation is a life-long, transforming process through which the stories, traditions, rituals and insights of the faith community become integrated into every aspect of an individual's life. All life experiences are occasions of formation which have the potential to deepen our experiences of God and relationships with others.

The Diocese of Indianapolis is committed to providing support for educational ministries in congregations and opportunities for individuals to be more fully informed in their faith. A wide variety of diocesan-wide programs are presented each year including the School for Ministries, Lay Eucharistic Visitor Training and Safeguarding God's Children Training. Continuing education grants for laity are also available (Lay Ministry Grant Application).

For more information about diocesan programs or assistance in obtaining resources or developing congregational programs, contact The Rev. Debra Kissinger, Canon for Education and Christian Formation at the diocesan office by phone (317-926-5454 or 800-669-5786) or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Education for Ministry (EFM) is a four-year program of theological education by extension of the School of Theology of the University of the South at Sewanee, TN. The program is designed for the laity of the church to provide participants with basic knowledge of the Christian faith. Every Christian is called to Christ's ministry by baptism. Through study, theological reflection and worship, participants gain a fuller understanding of what it means to respond to God's call and to make connections between Christian faith and daily life. The curriculum includes study of the Old and New Testaments, church history, theology, ethics and contemporary issues.

The cost is $340 per year with scholarship assistance available from the Diocese.

For more information about EFM groups which meet throughout the Diocese, contact:
