St. David’s, Bean Blossom: A National Winner!
 St. David’s entry for the prestigious Apostles in Stewardship Awards for Best Practices was one of three selected for exhibiting the best and most creative of “Best Practices” in stewardship education, training, recruiting, and communication for the previous triennium. Their submission in a nutshell:
"Multiplication of Abundance" at St. David’s Episcopal Church in the small central Indiana community of Bean Blossom is a program that successfully molded the concepts of a long-range parish plan, a 50th anniversary celebration, a Capital Campaign, and uniquely tithing their Capital Campaign funds for community outreach. This congregation, with an average Sunday morning attendance of 60-65, grounded their Capital Campaign approach in the theme of Building for Mission, creating an “ask” that was at once about building up property and people. The result was a Capital Campaign that nurtured their spirituality as a congregation, raised nearly five times their annual operating budget in pledges and donations-in-kind and provided an opportunity to offer a strengthened presence during devastating spring flooding and other human needs crises.
History of Apostles in Stewardship Awards for Best Practices:
At the last General Convention, TENS (The Episcopal Network for Stewardship) proudly presented the first Apostles in Stewardship Awards for Best Practices to: St. Timothy’s, Mountain View, California; Church of the Ascension, Seattle, Washington; and St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Brecksville, Ohio. Results of the competition were so positive that TENS did it again for the 2009 General Convention! Every Bishop was encouraged to honor creative stewardship work in their diocese by selecting one nominee.
